Es gibt zahlreiche Vorstellungen davon, wie die Stadt und der Verkehrssektor nachhaltiger gestalten werden kann. Häufig sind diese ökologisch motiviert. Es geht um die Dekarbonisierung des Verkehrssystems und die urbane Klimafolgenanpassung. Doch diese verkennen den Zusammenhang von gesellschaftlichen Machtstrukturen. Insofern erfordert eine wirklich nachhaltige Umgestaltung von Stadt und Verkehr wesentlich mehr.

Die Konkurrenz um Flächen für die Bedürfnisse nach Wohnen, Energie, Nahrung und dem Erhalt der Biosphäre ist eine Herausforderung bei der Transformation zur Nachhaltigkeit. Beispielsweise gehen durch den Bau von bezahlbarem Wohnraum und Solaranlagen Flächen verloren, die als Lebensräume oder landwirtschaftliche Nutzflächen nicht mehr zur Verfügung stehen.

Der Expertenbeirat Klimaschutz in der Mobilität soll ziel- und adressatenorientierte Handlungsempfehlungen an die Politik, die Wirtschaft und die Gesellschaft entwickeln.

Accessibility to essential services and economic opportunities, healthier lifestyles, a more efficient use of public space, reductions in transport emissions: We know that cycling has many benefits – but how can we quantify them? The research contributions will look at this question from different angles and with a global perspective, bringing together presentations from Africa, Asia and Europe.

How does the way we see and talk about cycling influence policies and planning? This session will offer a perspective on the perceptions and narratives that shape the discussion on mobility and cycling. The research contributions will explore how attitudes, discourses, representation in the media and political considerations frame cycling promotion and the mobility transformation.

Today, the societies, cultures, and the places in which we live and work are increasingly intricate phenomena. Globalization eradicates spatial boundaries to business. Gentrification involves social and political pressure. Pandemics are never site specific or confined to the past.

The transport transition is perhaps the most persistent challenge in the context of the socio-ecological transformation, as the demands for mobility that is available at all times are high in modern society. In addition, the interests and perspectives of key social stakeholder groups (politics, business, science, civil society) are often in clear conflict with one another.
