Alexander Czeh at the DFNS 2024 - Dresden Land Use Symposium

June 11 - June 12

The competition for land to meet the needs for housing, energy, food and the preservation of the biosphere is a challenge in the transformation to sustainability. For example, the construction of affordable housing and solar energy systems means that land is lost that is no longer available as habitats or agricultural land. Due to their high land requirements, renewable energies in particular exacerbate the conflict of objectives between climate-neutral energy generation and limiting the growth of settlement areas.

Land use conflicts of this kind must be resolved through interaction between spatial planning and nature conservation. This requires knowledge of spatial dynamics and land use change as well as the requirements for the protection and conservation of biodiversity.

What is the current state of land development in relation to the long-term goal of a circular economy? How can competition for land be resolved? What new approaches are there for land policy? Which instruments and procedures effectively support land conservation?

These questions were the focus of the 16th Dresden Land Use Symposium, which took place from June 11 to 12, 2024 at the Ramada by Wyndham Dresden took place.

We thank you for your visit and your active participation.
